Montego Bay, Jamaica – Sandals Royal Caribbean

Jamaican me craaaaaaazy!!! I like to go to places where you can say the name in a fun way. Hence, the reason I would like to go to Belize one day (Belize please!)

Jamaica was the ideal vacation. Eat, drink, relax, sleep, repeat. That’s my kind of trip! I had just come off a very busy work season and my soul purpose was to unwind. This was our second Sandals vacation (the first being St. Lucia (blog post)). Although this was a smaller resort, it had a much more intimate feel to it and the staff really went out of their way to make sure you were having a good time.

Let me start at the beginning.
AIRPORT: A week or two before your trip you will receive an email regarding a VIP Mobay Lounge – Club Mobay. BUY IT for your arrival! The line for immigration was pretty awful and this service allows you to breeze right through it. I’m not sure if it’s necessary for your departure. Security and customs was not bad but that’s up to you.

Once you get through immigration, you will see a beautiful Sandals lounge with plenty of seating and taps for beer and other refreshments. Roadies are not only accepted but encouraged. We were only in the lounge for a few minutes before we were whisked away to the van. It was a 5-7 minute trip from the airport to the hotel.

???????????????????????????????

CHECK-IN/ROOM:Our room wasn’t ready when we got there but no worries. We changed into our swimsuits and headed for lunch on the beach. We booked a basic room and were upgraded. I would recommend doing this. You are hardly in the room so why pay more? Also, we ran into two couples who had the butler service and the butlers were pretty much useless. They were never around when they needed them and the couples were really disappointed they shelled out the extra money for nothing!

COCKTAILS: We only drank beer but everyone seemed to love the different type of drinks. Many people mentioned how strong they were.

Gotta love the swim-up bar!

???????????????????????????????

ISLAND: I think my favorite thing about the resort was the off-shore island. We spent our afternoons there. The water is very shallow and you could just lounge about with a book/magazine. Pure bliss.

RESTAURANTS: They were all good with the exception of Eleanor’s. The service was terribly slow! The food was good – better than La Toc but many of the all-inclusive resorts aren’t really known for their food so if you’re a food snob, lower your standards a bit. Tea time in the afternoon was wonderful!

CLIENTELE: What I liked the most about this resort was the varying ages of people here. It ranged from young to old. At La Toc it was all honeymooners. I liked the opportunity to chat with people from all over and share stories. I felt like La Toc was more of a party resort and although my husband and I are in our 30’s we’re kind of past that now.

GROUNDS: Were clean and always maintained. It’s a beautiful resort and the staff keeps it that way.

AIRPLANES: Yes, airplanes fly overhead and occasionally you may have to stop your conversation but that’s what you get for the convenience of being 5 minutes away from the airport. It’s not a big deal AT ALL. I would hardly consider this an issue but based on reviews other people sure do.

We will absolutely be back at this resort!! I hope you have a wonderful time.
