Mont Saint-Michel, France

One of the most interesting places I have visited in France was Mont St. Michele – an island near Normandy. It’s hard to imagine this 11th-century abbey was once a prison.

scan0009Mont St. Michele is considered “The Wonder of the Western World.” It is surrounded by a bay that has one road that leads into it.

scan0007scan0005Besides having impressive views from the top, the tides are usually the show stealer. When the tide comes in, the entire abbey is surrounded by water…

scan0008…and when the tide goes back out, you are left with this.

scan0006The shops were quite touristy but you can find a nice cafe for a croissant and cappuccino.

france-normandy-brittany-mont-st-michel-main-road It’s worth the trip from Normandy, however it is a 3.5 hour drive outside of Paris.
