If ever you are looking for a place that looks and feels like the Caribbean without having to travel there, GO TO SANIBEL! The white sand beaches, the crystal clear waters, the shelling that goes on for miles, the sunsets, the laid back feel…this is Sanibel.
When we lived in Florida, my husband and I would “vacation” on the west coast of Florida. We discovered The Tropical Winds Motel and Cottage and never looked back. We stayed there all three times when we visited.
From the moment I booked the reservation, Kathy (the owner) was extremely accommodating. Since we had little time there they allowed us to check-in early and check out a little later. That extra time meant a great deal to us. The location is off the beaten path from the downtown area so be prepared to drive to restaurants/shops. However, you are right on the beach. We stayed in one of the cottages which was clean and had all the necessary amenities. This is a no frills establishment. If you are looking for lush bedding and modern furniture look elsewhere. However, you are hardly in the room so what does it matter? As it’s clean and comfortable that’s all that matters to me.
My favorite thing to do is wake up early and head to the beach for the sunrise and great shelling.
After breakfast, we take a cooler to the beach with some our favorite beers and relax.
The best part of the day is the sunset. Everyone comes out for the show.
The ocean is like a lake and extremely warm. I can’t say enough wonderful things about Tropical Winds and Sanibel. It’s our home away from home and I’m already looking for a reason to go back.
For those flying, rent a car from Fort Meyers and it’s about a 40 minute ride to the island. Stop at a Publix on the way to load up on food and alcohol. The Island Cow is a favorite spot for breakfast and dinner. The menu is very large and has something for everyone.
Another bonus, they accept pets! So bring your pup and enjoy. Have a fantastic time!!
